She ran her first race at thirty
Megan grew up in Houston and didn’t start running until 2016. Her first race was a half marathon in San Antonio, after training outdoors.
Nine years later she held a world record. She still teaches sixth-grade math in Santa Fe’s public schools and coaches adult runners with Sharman Ultra Coaching. After her 2025 record, Santa Fe Public Schools celebrated with a Megan Eckert Day.

I am passionate about adventure, travel, and any challenge that pushes body and mind to new heights. I live by a simple philosophy: there are no limits, only “I’m not there yet.”
Every day, I strive to step outside my comfort zone and redefine what’s possible—not just for myself, but to show others what happens when you embrace the unknown. As an athlete and educator, I hope to be the leader and role model I look up to, inspiring others to step up to their own start lines.

Her crew
No one runner is able to cross the finish line alone, and I am endlessly grateful to have two of the best in my corner: Joe Eckert, my husband, and our close friend Mike Dobies.
Whether it be a 250 mile point-to-point trail race through the heat and dust of the desert or tiny loops on an asphalt track for hours on end, Joe and Mike have been there through it all. There have been highs and lows, sleepless nights and unforgettable memories made. I couldn’t ask for better crew or better company and I am deeply grateful for their support, dedication and friendship.
